1The Community Awards Breakfast is one of the largest sit down events the Chamber hosts.  We often get 175-200 people attending, including many elected officials and community leaders.  Are you planning to attend? May 21, 2009 8-10 a.m. at Fountains REGISTER HERE

2. Michigan Week's mission is to inspire people - at the local level - to embrace, explore and celebrate the history, resources and opportunities that set Michigan apart as an ideal state to work, play and thrive.

3. Chamber’s Shop Local task force decides on a slogan:  "My Clarkston Buy Clarkston."  The program will be value and customer service based and not a coupon or loyalty rewards card program.  Add your ideas by taking our 10 question survey

4. The Dixie Highway was a United States automobile highway first planned in 1914, to connect the US Midwest with the Southern US. The route of the Dixie Highway was marked by a red stripe with the letters "DH" on it, usually with a white stripe above and below. This was commonly painted on telephone and telegraph poles along the route. Read more about our great highway.

5. McLaren Health Care Village will hold a ribbon cutting and open house Saturday May 30, 2009.  Ribbon Cutting at 11:00 a.m.

Why Golf?

Golf is a unique experience in that it includes team building, accommodates players of a variety of skill levels, and delivers on the insatiable appetite most business professionals have for self-development.

The SCRAMBLE format of a group of golfers playing together delivers the team building experience.  Over the course of 18 holds, each member of the team is going to contribute in some positive way, shape, or form--whether it's hitting a long drive, making a putt, or just encouraging their teammates.

Demonstrate your team building skills at the Chamber Golf Classic--June 29, 2009  8:30 Shotgun Start

Twitter, to tweet or not to tweet.  That is the question.

Are you on Facebook?  Do you update your status?  If so, you are not far from “tweeting.”  Twitter is a mico-blogging site, with over 14 million users that limits you to 140 characters.

People use Twitter for a wide variety of reasons, to promote a brand, strictly as a social tool, to get feedback, to read news, for marketing, to generate leads, or maybe to drive traffic to a blog or website.  Twitter allows you to listen in on and enter . . . . NEXT

How to Prevent Employee Theft

by Joseph T. Wills, CFE, CPA Association of Certified Fraud Examiners

1. Selecting the Right Employee
One of the most basic steps in preventing employee fraud is not to hire employees who have stolen previously. Before hiring anyone, you should conduct a background check to find out as much as you can about the employee's previous experience with employers and law enforcement. Each company must decide whether . . . . NEXT
