Independence Township Parks and Recreation

- Clintonwood Park: Located on Clarkston Rd. between M-15 & Sashabaw.
FACILITIES: Picnic area, playground, tennis courts, sand volleyball, basketball courts, baseball fields, in-line rink, horseshoe pits, soccer fields, fitness trail, a pavilion that can be rented and a spray park.
- Deer Lake Beach: Located on White Lake Road.Open Memorial Day-Labor Day. Admission. FACILITIES: Boat launch and swimming (lifeguards on duty).
- Sashabaw Plains Township Park: Located on Maybee Rd. FACILITIES: Playscape, pavilion, baseball fields and picnic areas.
- Bay Court Park: Located on Andersonville Rd. between Dixie Hwy. and White Lake Rd. FACILITIES: Large play area, pavilions, walking trail, open space and beach (lifeguards on duty.) Small banquet room for rent.
Springfield Township Parks and Recreation

- Hart Community Center: Available for private, community group or business use. Call for rental availability.
- Mill Pond Park: Located on Davisburg Road in downtown Davisburg. FACILITIES: Outdoor tennis, basketball, sand volleyball, shuffleboard, horseshoe pits, beach with swim area, walking path, fishing pier, playground area, gazebo, park benches, restrooms, and an outdoor pavilion with picnic tables and grills.
- Shultz Park: Located on the corner of Dilley and Davisburg Roads. FACILITIES: swingset, ball diamonds, restrooms, and an outdoor pavilion with picnic tables and grills.
- Green Lake Park: Located on the corner of Northbay and Foster Roads. FACILITIES: playground area, grills, picnic tables, outdoor basketball court and sand volleyball.
- Shiawassee Basin Preserve: Located west of downtown Davisburg. Park entrances are located off of Eaton and Davisburg Roads. Nature trails at Eaton entrance. FACILITIES: outdoor pavilion with picnic tables and grills, ponds for fishing, ball diamonds, soccer fields and Civic Center. Horses, mountain bikes or other high impact activities are not permitted in the Preserve.
- East Shiawassee: Located on the east side of Eaton Road, north of downtown Davisburg. A Management Plan is currently being created for this facility. Hunting is NOT permitted on this site.
- Davis Lake Overlook: Located west of Eaton Road, north of downtown Davisburg. A Management Plan is currently being created for this facility. Several activities are restricted at this location. Contact parks & rec department for details.

Boat Launch Sites
- Big Lake: 2 miles SE of Davisburg. 200 water acres, gravel surfaced ramp, no swimming, closed 11 p.m. – 4 a.m.
- Loon Lake: Drayton Plains. 234 water acres, hard surfaced ramp, no swimming, closed 11 p.m. – 4 a.m.
- Maceday Lake: 3 miles west of Drayton Plains. 419 water acres, hard surfaced ramp, no swimming, closed 11 p.m. – 4 a.m.
- Oakland Lake: 1 mile north of Drayton Plains. 235 water acres, fee, hard surfaced ramp, restrooms, no swimming, closed 11 p.m. – 4 a.m.

You must be a resident of Independence Township. You may be asked to show proof of residency. If you are a senior citizen or disabled and need assistance unloading, contact the DPW in advance at 248-625-8222.
Used Antifreeze—Stop by the DPW office first to sign in and register the quality. There is a maximum limit of 10 gallons. Do not mix with oil or any other by-product.

Batteries (except alkaline)—Rechargeable batteries, car, marine, lawn equipment etc. Alkaline batteries no longer contain mercury so they can be disposed of with normal household waste.
Mixed Recyclables: Enclosed dumpster
#1 and #2 household plastic containers only (i.e. butter tubs, containers etc.)
NO MOTOR OIL CONTAINERS
Clear white, green and brown glass; soup cans, juice cans, aluminum cans, etc.
NOTE: All containers must be rinsed out with no residues and if possible, remove labels. We do not accept windows, plate glass, aluminum window frames or gutters, plastic bags or swimming pools.
Tires—Stop by the DPW office first. $2 each.
Newspapers—Enclosed dumpster
Loose newspapers preferred. Keep newspapers as dry as possible. Wet newspaper is not recyclable.
Cardboard—2 open dumpsters
New! We now take all boxes (cereal, crackers, gift boxes, etc.) along with corrugated cardboard and brown paper bags. All boxes must be completely flattened. Please completely fill one dumpster before beginning on the second one.
Not accepting Paint, gasoline, fuel oil etc.
Dog Licenses
Oakland County dog licenses are available in the township treasurer’s offices. Dogs are required to be licensed at four (4) months of age or as soon as eligible for rabies vaccination. Verification of rabies vaccination and sterilization papers must be presented at the time of purchase.
Voter Registration
You may register to vote at a Township Clerk’s or Secretary of State office.
Senior Center
Independence Township Senior Center at 6000 Clarkston Road in Clintonwood Park, offers senior discounted programs and drop-in activities for adults aged 50+. Programs are geared for those 50, 70 or 90 years of age.
Nutrition Program
Lunches are served at the senior center Monday-Friday at 12. Meals are delivered 7 days per week for homebound residents of Clarkston and Independence Township. Cost share is $3 for those 60+ and 4$ for those under 60. To reserve a meal, call the nutrition hostess by the morning before you want to come. Menus are in the newsletter. Volunteer opportunities.
Transportation
Independence Township provides mini-bus service for persons 55+ and persons of all ages who have physical or mental disabilities and are residents of Clarkston, Independence or Springfield Townships. Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Handicap vehicles with wheelchair lifts are available. Destinations can be Clarkston, Independence Township or Springfield Township plus three nearby hospitals. Requested donation is $2 each way. Call at least one day ahead to schedule. Registration required.
