Clarkston Chamber Clarkston Volunteer Clearing House

The Corner Project - The Tillier Team

My wife and I are constantly walking the city and Depot park admiring the flower boxes sponsored by local businesses, but never knew or even looked into how to sponsor one. While downtown one day, I ran into Mike who works for the village and he was trying to clean up the large piece of property at Washington and Main, he added some woodchips and pulled some weeds, I asked Mike "what is the story with this corner?" "why is the busiest corner in Clarkston, the ugliest?" Mike said it could really use a sponsor and may be good for our business to look into it. Having a local Real Estate Team and frequenting downtown daily, I thought it would be awesome if we could make a difference. I inquired with the city and ultimately needed approval by the city, the Clarkston News owner and then a final blessing from the Clarkston Historic Committee. Once all the approval were met, we went to work. The design was created to have multiple phases and incorporate sponsored bricks. The community awareness and the participation of the local businesses has been incredible!! None of this could have been done without the support and family - Our whole family has worked and will continue to maintain the project, and my wife Melissa was visionary behind the raised boxes and the overall design. Phase 2 planning has begun and it will included a paved area for benches and more landscaping.

Because "community is our business" we felt it was finally time to join the Clarkston Chamber to be more involved with local businesses and local projects that need support. After sitting on the sidelines, we should have joined the Chamber long before now.
